An obedient dog is much happier and more enjoyable to an owner. In order for your dog to understand what makes you happy, it must be trained. Just like humans go to school to learn to read, write and communicate, dogs also need an education to enable them to communicate with and understand humans. With some simple training, a dog can quickly come to understand what you want it to do and live a much happier and healthier life with you. The leading cause of dog owners relinquishing their dogs to shelters is due to behavior problems. Few of these people realize how easy and rewarding training a dog can be.
Having owned and trained dogs all my life, I decided to take my love for them a step further and develop a career caring for and working with dogs. I support the Asheville Humane Society by volunteering my time working with dogs at the shelter and being an Open Paw instructor. I have personally trained or worked with many different breeds and backgrounds.

I am certified by Animal Behavior College of Northridge, CA as an obedience trainer and mentor instructor and later went on to be certified through the Certification Council of Pet Dog Trainers as well. I am always continuing to gain more knowledge by going to seminars and working with well known trainers such as Suzanne Clothier and Turid Rugaas, reading, etc. I train using positive reinforcement techniques. Using dog friendly methods isn't only effective, but also fun for you and your dog and creates a much stronger bond between the two of you. You can have peace, love and harmony with your dog without having to be the "pack leader". We use clickers in training making it quick for your dog to learn. I offer private in-home training and group classes for dogs. In-home training is very convenient for those who would rather train in the privacy of their own home or whose schedules conflict with group classes. It is also quite effective for dogs, especially those who may not be suited for group classes and that is also where a lot of behavior problems start. By training at home you'll also get the one on one training that you would not get in a group setting and get to work on exactly what you want to learn. In addition to the standard cues, we can also work on some unwanted behavior issues like jumping, housebreaking, puppy nipping, digging, etc. Basic obedience cues could consist of sit, sit/stay, down, down/stay, come, heel and loose leash walking. I teach you how to communicate to your dog in a way he/she understands. For those of you who's dogs that do well in classes or have a puppy who needs socialization we offer group classes for those. I specialize in working with fearful and shy dogs. These dogs are a special case and can take some extra patience and time to gain their trust with either their owner, other people, dog's, the environment etc.

Private Sessions With Owner
Do you just not have the right schedule to attend a group class, your dog just isn't suited for classes or you would like the one on one training to achieve your personal goals with your dog. If so private training is for you. Private sessions lets you custom fit what all cues you want to work on. Cues such as sit, down, stay, recall, watch and more. We can also work on problem solving for some of the behavior problems like jumping, mouthing, barking, chewing, housetraining, reactive toward other dogs. If you have specific issues don't be afraid to ask.
All training will take place at your home, unless working on a particular issue that needs to be taken somewhere else.

Day Training
What is day training? It is having a certified trainer come to your home to work with your dog several days a week while you are working.
Why? Day training is a very convenient option for people who work long days and need a "boost" to get their dog's obedience under control. By visiting during the day while you're away, we provide mental stimulation to keep your dog from being bored, which is a major cause of unwanted behavior. We get your dog going in the right direction and schedule "catch up" sessions with you so that you know how to reinforce their newly learned behavior. We can work on problem solving, basic manners, and even some playtime. By being bonded and insured, you can rest assured that your home and pet will be in good hands when you're away.
Day Training Consist of: 3- 1 hour sessions during the week and a 1/2 hour session at the end of the week with the owner to catch you up on how to reinforce what we've been working on. A Minnimum of 2 weeks is required
|
Before scheduling appointments for private training, a telephone interview is required. One or all of the primary dog owners will need to plan on participating in every training session (except day training), since you will be learning as much as or more than your dog. Continuation of the training techniques are a must in order for them to take root in your dog's daily behavior. Training sessions will generally be about an hour long, but could vary based on the dog's progress and needs. Very young puppies can not generally train as long as more mature dogs.
By showing proof of adoption from a local state-approved animal shelter, you will receive a 10% discount on all in home private training sessions.
Up-to-date vaccination records are required. Dogs must be on heart worm and flea prevention system. They must be healthy and not have had any communicable diseases in the last 60 days. (I have dogs at home who don't want fleas or diseases.)
